Dr. Richard Yuen is a Licensed Psychologist and Professor of Psychology who specializes in the areas of abuse, trauma, death and dying, chronic pain and disease, and identity issues. He has worked with children, adolescents, adults and seniors in a variety of treatment settings including crisis shelters, hospitals, residential treatment centers, independent living facilities, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. Richard’s early career involved working with the Department of Children and Family Services in the City of Chicago, Chicago Police Department and Illinois Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence. Since 2010, Richard has worked with the Department of Family Protective Services/Child Protective Services in the State of Texas, District Attorney’s Office of Travis County, Travis County Juvenile Probation Department, Austin Police Department, Department of Disability and Rehabilitative Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Travis County, to name several. Richard strongly believes in a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to evaluation and treatment, in order to tailor these services to the individual and to maximize the effectiveness of any intervention. Richard has served as a City Commissioner for the City of Austin, Manager for Central Health of Travis County, People’s Community Clinic Board of Directors, KLRU-TV Community Advisory Board Member, Travis County Model Court on Disproportionality Member, Child Welfare and Race Equity Collaborative Member, to name several. He advocates for and works primarily with traditionally marginalized, disadvantaged and underserved peoples of all ages with a particular emphasis on communities of color and the LGBTQIA+ communities as a clinical professional, community leader and conference presenter.
